Mike,
The Great Lakes BBQ Association was honored to participate not
once but twice this year in the Senior Q program.
Beginning Friday, October 8, GLBBQA members Kim HIcks and Wayne
who own the Beale Street Smokehouse Restaurant in Fenton, Mi graciously
offered up their restaurant facilities for prepping and cooking
the meals to be served at the Crestmont HealthCare Center in Fenton,
Michigan. GLBBQA President Mike Terry and his family assisted
in pulling the pork and getting the remainder of the meal ready.
On Saturday October 9, GLBBQA VP Scott Fischer and his wife Debbie
along with Kim and Wayne from Beale Street served over 100 meals
consisting of Pulled Pork sandwiches, BBQ Chicken breasts, baked
beans and cole slaw to the clients and staff of the Crestmont
Center for lunch. (pictures attached). Several positive comments
along with many big smiles were received by the cooking team from
those receiving the lunch.
Phase 2 of the Senior Q project took place on Saturday October
29, 2010 in Hart, Michigan. The Mayor of Hart declared October
as BBQ month and GLBBQA member Jeff Clark and the staff of the
Sand's Restaurant prepared meals to be served at the Oceania County
Council on Aging in Hart, Michigan in conjunction with their annual
Halloween dress-up gala. GLBBQA members Jerry Wasson and Mark
Roberts assisted Jeff and his staff in serving up lunch to 78
Seniors consisting of Pulled Pork sandwiches, "Wicked"
baked beans, "Devilish" cole slaw and cookies. 24 boxed
lunches were also prepared and taken to homebound senior citizens
in the Hart area.
The GLBBQA would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our
members who helped make these two events a huge success.
